Pet scan is a noninvasive study of the heart that makes us of rubidium 82. It emits a strong signal than thallium use in nuclear stress testing and this greatly enhances the accuracy for the diagnosis of blocked arteries and assessment of heart function. Its is stronger than thallium but its half life is shorter only lasting 90seconds.
Pre and post instructions
NO caffeine or dairy product for 24 hours prior to test. This includes decaffeinated coffee/soda, teas, chocolate, soda, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, ice cream and yogurt.
All medications are OK to take the day test.
Do not eat 2 to 3 hours before the test. Diabetic patients may have a light snack before the test and take half of your normal insulin dose.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and a tee shirt or button down shirt, this makes it easier to place the electrodes on your chest.
No smoking 2 hours prior to test.
